Consequently, Filipino healthcare professionals today are some of the world's best, steeped in a 100-year tradition of sanitation, evidence-based medicine, and modern health care.
Today, Filipino doctors and nurses steadily migrate to other parts of the world, forced to look for opportunities that do not exist in the country because of a dysfunctional economy. This outmigration, however, is not only a manifestation of the dire need to seek greener pastures—but it is also an indicator of the world-class quality of Filipino health care skills.
At the same time, the Philippines is also one of the world's alternative healing centers. It is haven to both the esoteric but world-famous mystics and faith healers and to professional practitioners of the more down-to-earth and accepted alternatives such as reflexology, acupuncture or acupressure.
Filipinos also demonstrate a distinct brand of care, competence and sensitivity that many other Westerners will find quite appealing.
