Makati Medical Center's Orthopedics department has come a long way since its establishment in 1969—and a very long way from its first image as the "carpentry" section of Surgery.

Indeed, the department has pioneered in all the latest innovations in orthopedics, in step with developments in the United States and Europe.

Makati Med's orthopedic specialists and medical staff are dedicated to providing excellent patient care in the field of orthopedic surgery and musculoskeletal medicine. Some of our sub-specialties are:

Degenerative Joint Diseases and Replacement

In the field of degenerative joint diseases and joint replacement, our specialists are world renowned for their open fracture classification. They are among the world’s most respected experts in hip and knee joint replacement and revision, and joint replacement and trauma.

Our department founder, in fact, is known for having invented many of the artificial joints now used, not only in the Philippines, but also in the world. He also runs a factory that manufactures prosthetic joints designed for the Asian physique.

Arthroplasty Procedures

Makati Med's Orthopedic department is also known for its arthroplasty procedures, with our specialists pioneering in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, and arthroscopy of the shoulder as well.

Other specialists work exclusively on the hand and wrist, pioneering endoscopic carpal tunnel releases as well as difficult reconstructions of hand injuries and defects, hand trauma and wrist arthroscopy including microvascular flap coverage for soft tissue defects.

Spine Surgery

Our Spine Surgery is among the most progressive in the country. Our specialists are among the pioneers of micro lumbar disectomy, which removes slipped discs with small incisions. They have also done landmark work on spine instrumentation for trauma and deformities, and foot and ankle surgery, as well. Some of our specialists are also internationally known for their work with children's orthopedics, treatments for bone and joint tumor and limb salvage surgery.

Tissue and Bone Bank

Not content with our trailblazing work, we at Makati Med Orthopedics also look forward to introducing more innovations in our field, establishing a tissue and bone bank, and continuing our sponsorship basic and clinical research into orthopedic problems in the Philippine setting.
