Makati Medical Center has one of the largest Radiology Departments in the country, offering a complete range of diagnostic and therapeutic radiological procedures.

The Radiology Department is committed to providing quality health care through excellence in image based patient care, research and education. In addition, we have Radiology Information System/Picture Archiving Communication System (RIS/PACS) wherein images can be stored or archived in the computer. The system also allows our doctors to view, retrieve and read images in their offices, at home or wherever they have access to a computer and the internet.

Our facility is equipped with high quality equipment.

Our Radiologists are constantly on the cutting edge of technology, developing and introducing new techniques that result in improved patient care. All of our Consultants are fellows of the Philippines College of Radiology.

Well Trained

All doctors, nurses and radiologic technologists in our department are licensed by the Professional Regulation Commission.

The nurses in the department are all certified intravenous therapists .They undergo continuous education through seminars and trainings which are officiated by the Nursing Service Office of the Hospital.

The Radiologic Technologists in the Department undergo continuous education through the Philippine Association of the Radiologic Technologists and the Philippine Society of Government and Private Employed Radiologic Technologists.

Radiology Modalities includes:

Computerized Tomography (CT Scan)

Images obtained shows anatomical information from cross-sectional imaging and reconstruction of the body. It also reveals both bone and soft tissue including organs, muscles and tumors. We currently have a Multi-Detector (16 slices /sec.) and Single Detector (Spiral) CT. We expect delivery of Multi –Detector, 128 slice CT in 2010

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

It uses nuclear magnetic resonance technology in visualization of soft tissue structures without using ionizing radiation. Our department has a 1.5 Tesla Siemens Symphony.

Special services offered:

Provides care from our specialized team led by our doctors prior, during and after the procedure.
M.R.I. packages Procedures:
MRI –MRA for head
MRI-MRA for head/ neck

M.R.I-M.R.A.– Thoracic, Abdominal Aorta, Peripheral and Renal Artery.

M.R.I. of the liver using specific contrast agent.

Diagnostic

Equipped with machines capable of performing tests from the basic chest x-ray to the more complex radiological procedures. We are also capable of handling the hospital’s need for portable or bedside radiography, as well as orthopedic procedures.

To meet our vision, our department is now in the process of converting to computerized and digital radiography (CR/DR).

Ultrasound

Ultrasound scanning or sonography involves exposing part of the body to high – frequency sound waves to produce internal pictures. Images are captured in real time showing the structure and movement of your body’s internal organs as well as blood flowing through the blood vessels.

At Makati Medical Center, we are proud to have been the first in the country to introduce diagnostic ultrasound in 1973.

At present, we offer state of the art ultrasound imaging. We also use computers to convert Doppler measurements into an array of colors to visualize the speed and direction of blood flow through the blood Vessels.

Interventional Radiology

Procedures provide minimally invasive option to open surgical procedures. They easier for the patient because it involves no large incision, less risk, less pain and shorter time of recovery.

Our Interventional Radiologist are specialized in targeted treatments. We are the referral center for difficult biopsies, injection for pain, treatment of vascular anomalies and treatment of tumors including radiofrequency ablation, radioembolization and transarterial chemoembolization (TACE).We also provide treatment for emergencies such as bleeding, difficult venous access and cyst treatment.

Radiation Oncology/Therapy

Radiation machines like linear accelerators have been designed and developed so that high doses of radiation therapy can be delivered to deep parts of the anatomy, while sparing superficial tissues. The current availability of new and powerful computers in our department is making better targeting of radiation therapy possible.

Using high quality imaging technology plus the powerful work station computers our Oncologists and medical physicist are able to visualize, target and direct the RT beam at the tumor while sparing adjacent normal clinical structure.
