Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
CT Scan and MRI are advanced imaging modalities which uses computer processing to create cross-sectioned images or slices of different parts of the body, including bones, blood vessels and soft tissues.  To obtain the images, CT Scan uses ionizing radiation while MRI uses non-ionizing radiation such as magnetic field and radio waves. Both modalities provide superior depiction of the human anatomy to localize and evaluate the extent of a disease process.  Intravenous (IV) or intestinal contrasts may be given during the procedure to distinguish any abnormal masses or lesions from the surrounding normal tissues.
The section offers services to evaluate some of the common ailments, such as:
  • Stroke to identify location and extent of the stroke including area of the brain that can be recovered; presence of hemorrhage, vascular occlusion and aneurysm
  • Cardiovascular Diseases to evaluate degree of plaque formation and stenosis in the coronary arteries; presence of aneurysm or dissections in vessels; cardiac anatomy, function and viability
  • Pulmonary Diseases to evaluate presence of masses and infection; demonstrate presence of pulmonary embolism, vascular malformations or pleural effusion.
  • Cancer to localize and stage the disease as well as evaluate response to treatment of the cancer
  • Musculoskeletal diseases to localize cause of common pain disorders involving the joints; evaluate extent of injury related to trauma or sports injury; planning purpose for surgically related musculoskeletal disease like bone and soft tissue tumors
The following are the services offered by the section:
  • CT/MRI – abdomen, brain, extremities/joints, head & neck, heart, spine
  • CT of the chest
  • MR Cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) – a special type of MRI exam to produce images of the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, pancreas and pancreatic duct.
  • Breast MRI

Special CT and MRI procedures are also done in the section, such as MR Spectroscopy (MRS), Brain Tractography, Prostate Imaging, Liver Specific Imaging, among others.
